The Mark Gorry Foundation
The Mark Gorry Foundation was started by Mark, and members of his family, to support those who helped him through his illness; a foundation that would positively impact the treatment of Cancer in the future as well as work at raising awareness amongst young men of the symptoms of Testicular Cancer. Mark's death in November 2009 at the age of 24 highlights the need to raise awareness of the illness and symptoms to young men to help with early diagnosis.
The aim of The Mark Gorry Foundation has two very important goals, each equally as important as the other;
1. To raise early awareness in men to 'check themselves' for any changes in their testes and to also raise awareness of a number of other symptoms that indicate the possibility of testicular Cancer, such as;
- A lump or mass in either testicle
- Any enlargement or swelling of a testicle
- A collection of fluid in the scrotum
- A dull ache in the lower abdomen, back, or in the groin
- A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
- Discomfort or pain in a testicle or in the scrotum
- Enlargement or tenderness of the breasts
2. To raise £1 Million for the Clatterbridge Centre of Oncology. The aim of the money is to further aid research and to make the centre as pleasant a place to be for both in patients and visitors. This includes investing in further support mechanisms such as Clic Sargent.
